The Z-plasty method disperses the incision to avoid a single linear scar. The scar will naturally fade over time, but the healing process may vary depending on the patient's skin condition.
Can I get results from just having an epicanthoplasty?
If the epicanthal folds are prominent, epicanthoplasty alone can help improve the horizontal length and reduce a closed-off appearance. However, balance with the double eyelid line is important, so we will advise on whether to perform double eyelid surgery concurrently depending on your condition.
What is the recovery period?
Bruising and swelling subside within 3 to 7 days, and it takes about 2 to 3 months for the natural eye shape to settle in. Individual differences may occur.
When are the stitches removed?
External sutures are typically removed approximately 5 to 7 days after surgery. The timing of removal will be adjusted by the medical staff based on the patient's recovery status.
Can the results of an epicanthoplasty be reversed?
The Mongolian fold may tend to re-gather or recur in some cases during the recovery process, so we proceed by reducing this through the incision line and suture design. Recovery patterns may vary from person to person.
Can it be done with other procedures?
Depending on the condition, double eyelid surgery (non-incisional/incisional), lateral canthoplasty, medial canthoplasty, and epicanthoplasty may also be performed. Whether these procedures are applicable will be determined through a consultation.
